About

Born in New York City, raised in London, and educated at Boston University and at the New England Conservatory as an operatic soprano, transatlantic sensation Elise Roth has been known to dazzle audiences on both sides of the Atlantic with her musicality, wit, and style.

Since 2014, Elise has been a professional working musician. She has gigged all across New England and Great Britain, and also in New York, Los Angeles, Japan, Italy, and Berlin. Elise has twice been guest vocalist with the Glenn Miller Orchestra for their 2021 and 2022 holiday tours across New England, New York, and Canada.

After many years of dividing her time between the US and the UK, Elise relocated permanently to London in early 2020, and now she regularly delights crowds at London nightspots like Nightjar, Evans & Peel, Crazy Coqs, The Ned, Jamboree, and The Candlelight Club. Both of her established bands - Elise Roth & Her High Standards, playing music from the 1920s and 1930s and Hot Jazz, and Elise Roth & Her Harvard Squares, a 9-piece miniature big band slinging swing music from the 1930s and 1940s for dancers and devotees alike - are regulars for Swing and Balboa dance festivals across the UK and beyond. Upcoming events include Oxford Lindy Exchange, Fine City Swing in Norwich, and Swingfest in Balham. She has also appeared on three different stages at the Twinwood Vintage Festival for the past few years, leading her two bands. Catch her this year (2025) on the Control Tower Stage on Sunday, August 24th!

Elise is also expanding her considerable repertoire by taking on more cabaret & comedy singing gigs in London, combining her astonishing voice and her impeccable comedic instincts and timing for the enjoyment of her fans. Stateside fans will recognize her from playing Ginger Lamarr for several years running at the audience-immersive production Club Drosselmeyer, a twist on The Nutcracker with a jazzy flair staged in Cambridge, MA.

And of course you can always get a glimpse of her mastery of different vocal styles and her off-kilter (but always on-key) humour on her YouTube channel, @EliseRothMusic. Be sure to join the other 20,000+ subscribers so you don’t miss out on content like her “Badly Translated Jazz” series and her mash-ups of contemporary pop with classic jazz and swing tunes. You can also find Elise on Bandcamp and Instagram.

And if Elise’s voice sounds familiar but you haven’t (yet) seen her perform, it might be because she also works as an audiobook narrator! She’s recorded a number of books for several different publishers since 2020, and there are always more in the works. Find her on Audible to hear some of her work.
